During Stockholm Culture Night the city’s cultural scene open their doors and offer cultural experiences with free admission for all. The main purpose of the Culture Night is to support existing museums, institutions and cultural organisations that focus on culture all year round. By participating in an exciting and vibrant event that showcases Stockholm’s cultural life, your organisation has the opportunity to reach new audiences.
Each year, the Culture Administration conducts a public survey to see whether Stockholm Culture Night truly works as a way for cultural organisations to attract new visitors. When asked, “Is this your first time visiting this organisation?” around 58% of visitors answer “yes”. This result has remained fairly consistent over the years. This shows that visitors genuinely use the Culture Night as a way to discover new cultural experiences and visit new venues.
The Culture Night is not a single event but rather a series of events, where each organisation is responsible for its own event and programme. The City of Stockholm, through the Culture Administration’s events department, handles coordination and marketing of these events under the shared name “Kulturnatt Stockholm”.
To participate in Stockholm Culture Night, you need to:
Whether you are a museum, theatre, cultural centre, gallery, community centre, studio or library – and what you choose to present during the evening – music, dance, theatre, exhibition openings, talks – it entirely up to you. Stockholm Culture Night is open to cultural organisations throughout the Stockholm region.
If your organisation is not a traditional cultural venue – for example a bar, restaurant or shop – you need to create a cultural programme that visitors can enjoy with free admission, in addition to your regular activities.
If you are organising city walks, you must manage your own ticket booking, offer more than one walk during the evening, and receive at least 50 visitors in total.
All organisers that are a part of the Stockholm Culture Night sign up voluntarily, and organisation who meets the Culture Night’s criteria is welcome to take part.
Each cultural organisation chooses and is responsible for its own programme and event. The Culture Administration does not interfere as long as your programme meets the basic requirements of the event.
